About the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest
The Obcursco Fly Fishing vest is available on Amazon for around $30 depending on any promotions. It is a budget option for fly fishing vests, but it still has solid build quality which I’ll get into later.

Build and Construction of the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest
The Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest isn’t made with the same care and materials as some of those higher-quality vests from more well-known brands, but it does the job for an affordable fly fishing vest. It’s not going to fail you after a few uses.
Materials
The Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest is made of polyester and mesh. The front of the vest is mainly polyester due to all of the pockets. Some of the pockets have mesh lining, but the polyester is necessary to help keep gear in place and somewhat dry on rainy days.
On the back of the vest, anglers will find all mesh. This helps to keep air flowing through the vest on some of those warmer days. Plus, there are two layers of mesh due to the pocket, so you have some more material there in case you do rip one layer of it.
Zippers
Besides a finicky zipper on the water bottle pocket on the back of the vest, the other zippers were all in working order. They have leverage pulls that give you an easier time on cold days or days when your hands are wet.
The zippers are able to be stretched in case you do overload a few pockets with extra gear.
Gear Loops
There are four smaller gear loops and four heavy-duty loops on the front of the vest. The heavy-duty loops are double-stitched and ready to hold your forceps and tippet spools. The small loops can take care of your sunglasses or nippers.
Pockets & Storage
On the front of the vest, anglers will find six pockets on each side. At the top, there are large zippered pockets that are deep enough to hold cell phones or larger fly boxes. The zippers on these pockets are water-resistant.
As you work your way down the vest, you’ll find a pocket specifically designed for a medium-sized fly box that can stand vertically. If you do need to take a smaller box with you, it can also fit in this pocket. However, there is a small pocket on the front of the protruding medium-sized pocket that could also fit a smaller box.

This pocket does have a hard, plastic front that is in place in case you do fall or drop the vest onto something that can do damage. It’s a small feature that gives you peace of mind that your equipment will last.
Other pockets on the front include a large zippered pocket near the middle. The pocket goes behind the fly box-specific pockets. It can hold snacks, a cell phone, or other valuables you don’t want on the front of your vest. The other pocket is one on the side that is perfect for your floatant. Keep it in here, and you’ll never lose it.
On the back of the vest, there are two pockets. The lower pocket is in place for people to put water bottles, extra reels, or any larger gear you would want in a secure place. The other pocket is the large pocket for extra clothing or extra large gear.
On the inside of the vest, there are two open-topped pockets on the inside of the front panels. So, whatever you put in here does have the chance to fall out if you do bend over. Below these open-topped pockets, you’ll find a short, wide-zippered pocket that can fit a cell phone sideways or keys and a wallet.

Features
The backside of the vest has two primary features anglers would want: a D-ring as well as a large zippered pocket. The D-ring is double-stitched, so you can attach your net to it and not have to worry that it’s going to get ripped off. Bringing a landing net along on a fishing trip is a must, and the Obcursco vest gives you the chance to bring whatever you need.

The large pocket on the back is the ideal place to put extra layers you are bringing or need to remove depending on the weather. It could also fit extra hats and gloves or any other larger pieces of equipment that you need to make you feel comfortable on the water.
In terms of other features, there are eight gear loops on the front of the vest that can all serve different purposes. You can hang your sunglasses, tippet spools, forceps, nippers, and anything else you would want. Some of the gear loops are heavier-duty and are good options for those heavier accessories. It’s a good place for valuables.
Price of Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest
The Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest is only going to cost anglers around $30. There are few fly fishing vests on the market that are this affordable. Many of them are fairly low quality, but Obcursco found a nice balance of affordability and quality that makes this vest well worth the investment.
Whether you want the green and orange design or the grey, each vest is going to cost you $30 depending on any promotions.
The Overall Fit & Adjustability
There are shoulder and waist straps on the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest that are fully adjustable. The waist straps don’t get overly tight, so thin anglers who want a vest that’s going to stay tight to their body may run into some trouble.
The shoulder straps are easily adjustable and they can get as long or short as necessary. Once you’ve adjusted the straps to get them where you would like, you can tuck them back into the vest so they aren’t getting in the way of you making casts.
Cons of the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest
One of the primary cons of the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest that I received was the stuck zipper on the back of the vest. I had to open up the zipper in order to get it in the right place and then clamp it back down once it was in the right place. This may not be the case for every vest, but it was one of the downsides of mine.

Another downside of the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest is that it doesn’t get as slim fitting as other vests in its price range. I’m a fairly thin person (6′ and 170 pounds), and I wasn’t able to cinch the vest as tightly as I would like. Since I fish in backcountry areas quite often, I find that it gets stuck on branches.

My Personal Thoughts and Opinions about the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest
The Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest is a vest that I would recommend for all types of anglers. I’m the type of angler who likes to get out and away from people, so I need to take some more gear as a result. Whether it’s bear spray or a Garmin In-Reach, I always need room for some extra equipment. The Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest allows me to carry all the gear I need.
On the front of the vest, I like how deep the top pockets are. They’re deep enough to hold my cell phone, and they have a water-resistant zipper. I like to keep my phone up higher, so I can easily access it for pictures, and the depth of the pockets allows me to do it.

I also find that the gear loops near the top are heavy-duty, and my gear like bear spray or GPS doesn’t feel as if they’re pulling the vest down too far. Plus, the pockets for my fly boxes are large enough for my medium-sized fly boxes.
On the back of every vest I own, I need there to be a large pocket to store extra clothing. During my backcountry excursions, it’s not uncommon for me to run into unexpected inclement weather.
As a result, I never leave my car or my camp without a rain jacket as well as some hats and gloves. The Obcursco pocket on the back is plenty large for these things, and the zipper is durable enough to be stretched a bit.
The water bottle pocket on the back is large enough to hold my Nalgene, and a small water filter, so I can have plenty of water throughout my day.
In terms of quality, I find that the Obcursco Fly Fishing Vest is comparable to many other vests in its price range. For $30, I think anglers are going to get their money’s worth and them some. It’s a fully functional vest with all the storage necessary for a day on the water.
